Disclaimer & Safety

Read this before you head to the woods.

Piedmont Hunter is an educational resource. Hunting carries real legal and physical risk, and the responsibility for hunting safely and lawfully is yours. Please take these points seriously.

Always verify current regulations with SCDNR. Seasons, zones, bag limits, weapons rules, and license requirements change, and any dates or limits mentioned on this site may be out of date by the time you read them. Before you hunt, confirm the current rules directly with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Educational use only

Everything on Piedmont Hunter is provided for general educational and informational purposes. It reflects our best understanding and field experience, but it is offered as-is, without warranty of any kind. We make no guarantee that any information is accurate, complete, current, or suited to your specific situation, location, or equipment.

Not legal advice

Nothing on this site is legal advice. Game laws are detailed, location-specific, and subject to change and interpretation. Where we summarize regulations, we do so to help you learn — not to replace the official source. The official SCDNR regulations, and any applicable federal, state, county, or property-specific rules, always control. If you are unsure whether something is legal, do not do it until you have confirmed it with the proper authority.

Safety is your responsibility

Hunting and the handling of firearms, archery equipment, treestands, and edged tools are inherently dangerous. By using this site you accept that your safety, and the safety of those around you, is your own responsibility. At a minimum:

  • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded, and never point it at anything you are not willing to destroy.
  • Be certain of your target and what lies beyond it before you shoot.
  • Wear a full-body harness any time your feet leave the ground in a treestand.
  • Know and follow hunter-orange, weapon, and zone-of-fire requirements for where you hunt.
  • Tell someone where you'll be and when you'll be back, and carry a way to call for help.
  • Get proper, hands-on instruction before hunting; complete a certified hunter-education course.

Reading this site is not a substitute for hands-on training, a hunter-education course, or the guidance of an experienced mentor.

Not affiliated with SCDNR

Piedmont Hunter is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources or any government agency. References to SCDNR are provided for your convenience so you can reach the authoritative source.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the creators of Piedmont Hunter are not liable for any loss, injury, damage, citation, or other harm arising from your use of, or reliance on, anything found here. You use this site, and you hunt, at your own risk.
